OMVI Health Privacy Policy
Last updated: 19 October 2026 · Applies from: the launch of the OMVI Health app in Australia and New Zealand
This policy explains how OMVI Health Pty Ltd handles your personal information when you use the OMVI Health app, the OMVI scales connected to it, and this website (app.omvihealth.com). Our online shop at omvihealth.com has its own privacy policy.
- Who we are: OMVI Health Pty Ltd (ABN 17 698 486 403), Suite 12, 20 Bungan Street, Mona Vale NSW 2103, Australia ("OMVI", "we", "us").
- Australian law: we handle personal information under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), including the Australian Privacy Principles.
- New Zealand law: for people in New Zealand, we handle it under the Privacy Act 2020, including the Information Privacy Principles, and the Health Information Privacy Code 2020 where it applies.
- Health information: much of what the app records is about your health. Under both countries' laws, health information gets extra protection, and we treat it that way.
1. The short version
- We collect what's needed to measure your body, track your food and run your account. We don't collect your location, contacts or advertising ID.
- We never sell your information and never use it for advertising.
- Where your data is stored: OMVI's main database is in Sydney, Australia (Supabase, on Amazon Web Services). It holds your account, measurements, food log and settings.
- Not everything stays in Australia. Some providers handle some information overseas (see section 8):
- Resend sends our automated emails, such as account verification and password resets. It sends them from Japan and stores email data in the United States.
- Claude, made by Anthropic in the United States, powers the optional AI features. They're off until you turn them on, and data is only sent when you use them.
- Apple processes App Store payments.
- Nothing is sent to China, and nothing is sent to the company that makes our scales. Your scales talk only to the OMVI app and to OMVI's own servers. Body composition is calculated on your phone.
- You can see, download, correct or delete your information at any time in the app (Me › Privacy and legal).
- Deleting your account: it removes everything from our live systems within 30 days, and from backups within a further 35 days.
2. What we collect
| Type | What it includes |
|---|---|
| Account | Name, email address, password (stored only as a one-way hash), or a Sign in with Apple identifier; country |
| Profile | First name, date of birth, sex, height, activity level, units, goals, which OMVI scales you have, and settings such as weight-only mode and your coach's voice |
| Body measurements (health information) | Weight, and if your scale measures it, body composition (body fat, muscle, water, bone, visceral fat, metabolic rate and related estimates), heart rate, and the date and time of each weigh-in |
| Food and nutrition (health information) | Foods and drinks you log, amounts, meals, recipes, fasting days, calorie and nutrient targets, and foods you add to the database |
| Family members | The profiles and measurements of other adults you add (see section 12) |
| Scales | Scale model, Bluetooth identifier, name, firmware version and settings |
| Shared links (only if you create them) | The items you chose to share, when the link expires, and how many times it was viewed |
| AI features (only if you use them) | Messages you send OMVI Coach (typed or spoken), the Coach's replies, meal photos you take with the AI photo tracker, receipts you scan, places and menu photos you ask about when eating out, and the estimates they return |
| Your shop (only if you scan receipts) | The food items read from supermarket receipts you scan: product names, store, date and how many you bought |
| OMVI Premium | Whether you subscribe, renewal and expiry dates, and Apple's transaction identifiers. Apple handles payment; we never see your card details. |
| Support | What you send us when you contact us, and an app log if you choose to attach one |
| Technical | App version, device model and operating system version, and error information needed to keep the app working |
| Reminders | Whether you've turned on reminders, how often you want to weigh in (for example daily, weekly, fortnightly or monthly), whether you want a daily food-logging reminder, and the time of day you chose |
| Marketing preferences | Whether you've agreed to receive tips and offers by email |
We don't collect your precise location, contacts, photos other than the ones you choose to take or upload, recordings of your voice, or any advertising identifier. We don't track you across other companies' apps or websites.
3. How we collect it
- From you: when you create an account, fill in your profile, log food, add family members, use the AI features or contact us.
- From your OMVI scales: by Bluetooth, when you weigh yourself or your food. The scale software runs on your phone.
- From Apple: if you sign in with Apple, buy OMVI Premium, or turn on Apple Health. With Apple Health on, OMVI can save weigh-ins to Health and read your weight and the active calories you burn (from your iPhone and Apple Watch); you choose exactly what in the Health app. OMVI keeps a daily total of active calories with your account, so your calorie budget and coach are the same on every device.
- From other people: if someone in your household adds you as a family member, or someone shares their results with you.
If you'd rather not give us information. No law requires you to give us any of it. But:
- without an email address (or Sign in with Apple), we can't create an account;
- without your date of birth, sex and height, we can't calculate body composition or your calorie targets;
- without health information, the app can't work, because measuring and tracking it is what OMVI does.
You can still weigh yourself on an OMVI scale in guest mode, without an account. Nothing is saved.
4. Why we use it
| Purpose | Information used |
|---|---|
| Run your account and sign you in | Account, technical |
| Show your measurements, results, trends and comparisons | Profile, body measurements |
| Work out your calorie and macro targets, goal progress and 7-day outlook | Profile, body measurements, food and nutrition |
| Log food, look up products and barcodes, build recipes, guide meal prep | Food and nutrition, scales |
| Connect to and manage your scales | Scales |
| Provide the AI features you choose to use | AI features, and the data the Coach needs (section 6) |
| Provide OMVI Premium and check your subscription | OMVI Premium, account |
| Answer questions and fix problems | Support, technical |
| Remind you to weigh in or log your food, only if you've turned reminders on | Reminders |
| Send account emails (sign-in codes, security notices, important changes) | Account |
| Send tips and offers, only if you've agreed | Account, marketing preferences |
| Keep the service secure, prevent misuse, and meet our legal obligations | All, as needed |
Automated calculations. OMVI works out your targets, progress and body composition estimates automatically, using standard published formulas and the scale maker's calculations. These are suggestions to help you, not decisions that affect your legal rights. You can change your goal, targets and settings at any time.
We only use health information for the purposes above, or as the law allows. We'll ask you first before using it for anything else.
5. Your consent
Before you sign in or create an account, you tick two separate boxes (they're never ticked for you):
- Terms and privacy: you're 18 or over, and you agree to our Terms of Use and this policy.
- Health information: you consent to OMVI collecting and using your health information, such as your weight, body composition and food log, to provide the app.
We record when you agreed, and which version of the Terms and this policy you agreed to.
Some of our service providers are overseas (section 8). We protect that information through our agreements with them, as section 8 explains, rather than by asking you to give up any protection.
Turning on OMVI's AI, marketing emails and reminders are separate, optional choices. Each starts off, and you can change it at any time in the app.
You can withdraw any consent. Turn off AI sharing or marketing emails in Me › Privacy and legal, or delete your account to withdraw everything.
6. AI features (OMVI Coach, the AI photo tracker, receipt scanning and eating out)
These features are optional. They're powered by Claude, an AI model made by Anthropic PBC (United States).
- When anything is sent: only if you've turned on OMVI's AI (when you set up the app, or the first time you use these features), and only when you use OMVI Coach, the AI photo tracker, receipt scanning or eating-out suggestions. Suggestions for a chain whose official nutrition guide is in OMVI don't use AI.
- What OMVI Coach receives:
- your messages;
- the account holder's age, sex and height;
- your goal and targets;
- your recent food log, weigh-ins and body composition;
- the names of your saved recipes.
It doesn't receive your name, email address or family members' data.
- What the AI photo tracker receives: the meal photo you take and any note you add.
- What receipt scanning receives: the receipt photo you take. Only the purchased items are read. Card numbers, names, addresses and loyalty numbers are ignored, and OMVI doesn't keep the photo. Food items from supermarket receipts are saved to Add food › Shop until you remove them; takeaway items are logged to your meal as estimates.
- What eating-out suggestions receive: the place you picked or typed (or a photo of its menu), the meal, the calories and protein you have left for the day, and your goal type (lose, maintain or gain). Not your name, your food log or your measurements. OMVI doesn't keep the menu photo; only the items you choose to add go into your food log.
- How Anthropic handles it: Anthropic processes it to produce the answer, and doesn't use it to train its AI models. Anthropic may keep it for a limited time (currently up to 30 days) to keep its service safe, then deletes it.
- What OMVI keeps:
- your Coach conversation, until you delete it or your account;
- meal photos for 30 days, then they're deleted automatically;
- the estimates you logged, as part of your food log.
- Limits: AI answers and photo estimates can be wrong. They're general information, not medical, dietetic or other professional advice. Check estimates against the pack, or weigh your food when you can.
- Turning it off: Me › Privacy and legal › OMVI's AI. Everything else in the app keeps working.
6A. Talking to your coach
You can talk to OMVI Coach instead of typing: dictate a message, or use voice mode for a spoken conversation.
- Permissions: the app asks for the microphone and speech recognition the first time you talk to the coach, and never before. You can turn them off any time in iPhone Settings › OMVI Health.
- Your voice stays on your phone: speech is turned into text on your iPhone using Apple's on-device speech recognition. OMVI sets this to work on the device only, so your audio isn't sent to OMVI, Anthropic or anyone else, and it isn't recorded or kept. If on-device recognition isn't available for your language, talking to the coach is switched off for that language instead.
- What's sent: only the words, exactly like a typed message to OMVI Coach (see section 6).
- Spoken replies: the coach's replies are read aloud by voices built into your iPhone. Nothing is sent anywhere to be spoken. Choose the voice, accent and speed in Me › Coach voice.
7. Who we share it with
We don't sell, rent or trade your information, and we don't share it for advertising. We share it only with:
| Who | What they do | What they receive | Where |
|---|---|---|---|
| Supabase Inc. | Hosts our database, sign-in, file storage and server functions | Everything stored in your account | Stored in Sydney, Australia (Amazon Web Services). Supabase's support and engineering staff may access it from the United States and other countries to run the service. |
| Resend Inc. | Sends our automated emails from app@omvihealth.com: account verification, sign-in and password-reset links, account notices, and tips and offers if you agreed | Your email address, your name if the email uses it, the email's content (including sign-in links) and delivery records | Sent from Tokyo, Japan. Email and log data stored in the United States for 30 days. |
| Microsoft (Microsoft 365) | Hosts our support mailbox, app@omvihealth.com | What you send us when you contact us, and our replies | [CONFIRM: data location shown in the Microsoft 365 admin centre, under Settings › Org settings › Organization profile › Data location] |
| Anthropic PBC (Claude) | Powers OMVI Coach, the AI photo tracker, receipt scanning and eating-out suggestions | Only what's listed in section 6, and only if you use them | United States |
| Apple Inc. | App Store, OMVI Premium payments, Sign in with Apple, Apple Health | What's needed for those services. Apple Health data stays in the Health app on your phone. | United States and Australia |
| Open Food Facts | Public food database we use for barcode lookups | Only the barcode number of a product not already in OMVI's database. Nothing that identifies you. | France |
| People you choose | Shared links and images you create, for example for a nutritionist (section 12A) | Only the scan or summary and the fields you pick | Wherever they are |
| Authorities | When the law requires it (for example a court order), or to prevent a serious threat to someone's life, health or safety | What the law requires | Australia or New Zealand |
Your scales. The software that reads your OMVI scales is licensed from the scales' manufacturer and runs on your phone. Your measurements go only to your OMVI account; the manufacturer doesn't receive your information.
Our service providers may use only what we give them to provide their service to us. They must keep it secure under written agreements with us.
8. Information handled overseas
OMVI's main database, which holds your account and health information, is in Sydney, Australia. Some of our service providers are located overseas, or store some information overseas, and may access or process it:
| Country | Who | Why |
|---|---|---|
| United States | Supabase (staff support and operations), Resend (stores email and delivery data), Anthropic, Apple | Running the service, sending email, AI features, payments and sign-in |
| Japan | Resend (sending region) | Sending our automated emails |
| France | Open Food Facts | Barcode numbers only, not personal information |
Before your information is handled overseas, we take reasonable steps so it's protected to the standard of Australian and New Zealand privacy law:
- we choose providers with strong security;
- we have written agreements that limit how they use it and require them to protect it;
- we send the least information needed.
We remain responsible for how our providers handle your information. If you're in New Zealand, we only disclose your information overseas where the recipient is required to protect it in a way comparable to New Zealand law, or you've authorised it after we've told you.
9. Keeping it secure
We take reasonable steps to protect your information from misuse, loss, and unauthorised access or changes, including:
- Encryption: information is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest.
- Access controls: our database is set up so each person can reach only their own records, and the records of people who've shared with them.
- Staff access: limited to people who need it, using multi-factor sign-in.
- Passwords: stored only as a one-way hash.
- Backups: made daily and kept for a short time.
- Testing: we test our security rules before each release.
No system can be completely secure, so we can't guarantee it. We review these steps as the app and the risks change.
Data breaches. If a data breach is likely to result in serious harm, we'll tell you and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) under the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme. In New Zealand, we'll tell you and the Privacy Commissioner. We'll also tell you what to do to protect yourself.
10. How long we keep it
| Information | Kept for |
|---|---|
| Your account, profile, measurements, food log, recipes and goals | Until you delete them or your account |
| Meal photos from the AI photo tracker | 30 days, then deleted automatically |
| Menu and receipt photos | Not kept by OMVI (used for the answer, then discarded) |
| Your voice | Not recorded or kept. Speech is turned into text on your phone. |
| OMVI Coach conversations | Until you delete them or your account |
| AI inputs at Anthropic | Up to 30 days, then deleted by Anthropic |
| Email content and delivery logs at Resend | 30 days |
| Support emails in our app@omvihealth.com mailbox | 2 years after the issue is resolved |
| App logs you attach to a support request | 90 days |
| Backups | Up to 35 days, then overwritten |
| A record that an account was deleted (no health information) | 2 years, to show we handled the request |
When we no longer need information, we delete it or remove anything that identifies you.
11. Deleting your account
Delete your account in the app: Me › Privacy and legal › Delete my account. You can also email app@omvihealth.com or use omvihealth.com/delete-account.
- Straight away: your account is closed, you're signed out, sharing stops, and family profiles you created are removed from use.
- Within 30 days: everything is permanently deleted from our live systems. That covers your profile, family members, measurements, food log, recipes, goals, Coach conversations, photos and scale settings.
- Within a further 35 days: remaining copies in backups are overwritten.
- OMVI Premium: deleting your account doesn't cancel your Apple subscription. Cancel it first in your App Store settings (the app shows you how).
- Data elsewhere: anything you saved to Apple Health stays in the Health app until you delete it there. Emails already sent to you stay in your inbox.
- What we keep: only the record in section 10, and anything the law requires us to keep.
Want a copy first? Use Download my data.
12. Adults only, and family members
- OMVI is for adults. You must be 18 or over to use OMVI, and family members you add must be 18 or over too. OMVI isn't designed for children, and the app doesn't let you add a child.
- Adding another adult: the app asks you to confirm they've agreed to you adding them and their health information. They can ask us at any time to see or delete their information.
- Removing a family member: you can remove them at any time, and their measurements are deleted.
12A. Sharing your results
You can share one body composition scan, or a nutrition summary, with someone you choose, such as a nutritionist, dietitian or trainer. Nothing is shared unless you do it.
- You choose exactly what: pick the scan or period, tick each item to include, and see a preview of exactly what they'll see. Your name is left off unless you switch it on.
- As an image: made on your phone, and you send it yourself. Nothing is uploaded, and no link is created.
- As a secure link:
- the link starts with https://share.omvihealth.com/ and needs a separate passcode, which you send them separately;
- it works for 1, 7 or 30 days, as you choose, and you can turn it off at any time in Me › Privacy and legal › Shared links;
- we store a copy of only the items you chose. That copy is deleted when the link expires or you turn it off, and the link record is removed 30 days later;
- deleting your account turns off all your links.
- What happens once they've seen it: they can save, screenshot or copy what they see. Turning off a link stops new views, but can't recall copies already made. The recipient handles anything they keep under their own privacy obligations.
- What the recipient sees: the items you chose, the date, and a note that the results are general wellness information. We don't track recipients, set cookies or use analytics on the sharing page.
13. Seeing, downloading, correcting and deleting your information
You can:
- see and correct most of your information directly in the app;
- download a copy of everything in your account (Me › Privacy and legal › Download my data). The file is saved to your phone, not emailed;
- ask us for access to, or correction of, any information we hold about you;
- ask us to delete specific information.
Our response time: we respond within 30 days (Australia) or 20 working days (New Zealand), and we don't charge for it. If we can't do what you ask, we'll explain why in writing and tell you how to complain.
14. Emails from OMVI
Account emails. We send automated emails from app@omvihealth.com, through Resend, when you need them: verifying your email, sign-in and password-reset links, security notices, and confirmations such as account deletion. We keep them short:
- No health information in emails. Our emails never include your measurements, body composition, food log, reports or any other health details, in the subject or the body. To see your information, sign in to the app.
- Keep sign-in links private. Sign-in and password-reset links only work for a short time and only once. Don't forward them. We'll never ask for your password by email.
Replies and support. If you email us or reply to one of our emails, your message reaches our support mailbox, app@omvihealth.com, hosted by Microsoft 365.
Tips and offers. We'll only send tips, offers and product news if you've said yes. Every marketing email includes an unsubscribe link, and you can also turn them off in the app (Me › Privacy and legal). This follows the Spam Act 2003 (Cth) and the Unsolicited Electronic Messages Act 2007 (NZ).
15. Reminders and notifications
Reminders are optional. During setup, and at any time in Me › Reminders, you can choose:
- Weigh-in reminders: how often you want to weigh in (daily, every 2 days, weekly, fortnightly or monthly), on which day and at what time; or off.
- Food-logging reminder: a daily reminder to log your meals; or off.
How they work:
- Your iPhone asks for permission before OMVI can show any notification. If you say no, the app works the same, just without reminders.
- Reminders are scheduled on your phone. No push notification service and no other company receives your reminders or your data to send them. We save your reminder choices in your account so they carry over to a new phone.
- Reminders only say things like "Time to weigh in" or "Don't forget to log your lunch". They never show your weight or other health figures, so nothing private appears on your lock screen.
- Reminders are never used for advertising or offers.
- Other notifications: occasionally OMVI sends a notification from our server, for example when a food you added is approved. These go through Apple's push notification service. They contain no health information.
- Turning them off: turn any reminder off in Me › Reminders, or turn off all OMVI notifications in your iPhone's Settings › Notifications › OMVI.
16. This website
app.omvihealth.com holds the app's legal and help pages. It uses no cookies, no analytics and no tracking. Our online shop at omvihealth.com is a separate website with its own privacy policy.
17. Changes to this policy
We'll tell you in the app before any important change takes effect, and show you what's changed. If a change is important, for example how we use health information or who we share it with, we'll ask you to agree again before you keep using the app. Each version is dated at the top, and we keep earlier versions so you can see what you agreed to.
18. Questions and complaints
